As many of you know, my husband and I escaped to the mountains for a week. We were celebrating our 5 year anniversary and we thought what better place than where we spent our honeymoon. We’ve even been to Pagosa Springs together before we dated. We were with our college group on a ski trip! It obviously holds a special place in our hearts, but I really believe anyone who visits will find it just as charming and the perfect place to vacation. So here are our 7 reasons to visit Pagosa Springs!

1. Mountains/Views
This one seems obvious, but even the locals we spoke with mentioned it! Simply driving around town the views are spectacular. If this was the only reason I could give, it would be enough!

2. Small Town Feel
We have visited several other small towns in Colorado, but Pagosa Springs has a unique charm unlike any other. It’s spread out enough that there’s actually an uptown and downtown. But everything is close, too. The downtown has a river through it, filled with the deepest hot springs in Colorado. It’s quaint, charming, and beautiful.

3. 4 Seasons
Summer & Spring in CO are perfect for all things outdoors. The temperatures are great and it doesn’t get too hot. Of course, you actually get a real fall and the Aspens are beautiful this time of year. Winter comes with lots of snow, but even the locals said it’s like powder (the best for skiing!) and can be blown off the driveway with a leaf blower. 🤣 I dream of living somewhere that experiences all 4 seasons and CO seems like the perfect place!

4. Good Local Coffee
Higher Grounds is located uptown in Pagosa Springs, has a delicious coffee menu, as well as many breakfast & lunch options. We had bagels and cream cheese a few times, but our favorite was the Smokey Susie for lunch. It was a turkey sandwich on a croissant with a special cranberry mustard and it was delicious. Pair it with their half and half chai (half spicy, half sweet) for the perfect combination!
The second coffee shop was Root. The selection was smaller, but they have an in-house special that was made with 7 of their flavors and oat-milk. They don’t share the ingredients for this drink, but it was really delicious! They also have wonderful kolaches and a unique gift area with rustic decor pieces. It’s located downtown on the river, which adds to the ambience.

5. Wildlife
This might seem obvious, too. But y’all! Not only did we see deer & turkey at our house each day, but all over town as well. One night as we were eating downtown, 6 deer were across the street, and not bothered one bit by the cars or people. As we drove home each evening, we would see deer all throughout the town and each time we couldn’t help but yell “deer!” 🤣 It’s also common to see elk & bears. We really enjoyed seeing all the wildlife. It was definitely a highlight for us!

6. Rosie’s Pizza & The Malt Shoppe
The best pizza, with ski & snowboard decor, where all the locals eat! It’s absolutely delicious and can’t be overlooked while visiting Pagosa Springs! Their garlic knots are the best!
For dessert, head to the Malt Shoppe for a hot fudge malt!

7. Outdoor Livin‘
There is always something to do outdoors! In the summer/fall there is hiking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and camping. In the winter there is skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and snow tubing. And those are just a few of the many options. Pagosa offers a variety of outdoor activities year round, which means you’ll always have something to do!
