From Winter to Spring

Happy Spring! Winter is over and I couldn’t be more grateful. It was a tough winter for me and things did not go as I planned. Isn’t it funny that we actually think we are in control sometimes?? I spent the majority of the last 2 months sick. I was in the hospital twice and at doctors appointments nearly every week. I am finally doing better and gaining more strength each day! I spent a lot of the time discouraged and paralyzed by fear. And y’all, when I say paralyzed by fear, I mean crippled, not moving, and literally stuck in the same defeated place for too long. BUT GOD, in all His grace and love, gently pulled me close and reminded me that I am His! And though I don’t have it all figured out and I still have days that fear finds its way back into my heart, I have learned some valuable lessons during this time. Some lessons are repeats (because learning tough lessons are so fun I want to experience them twice!) and some lessons are brand spanking new. I would like to share a couple of those lessons with you!

#1: I had misplaced my confidence. I was relying on my husband, family and friends to provide a sense of comfort and safety that only God can give. While those relationships are there to provide some comfort and encouragement, they shouldn’t be the source of those things. Psalms 118:8 says, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”

#2: Fear had taken over and I was living defeated. I had allowed thoughts and fears to slowly creep in, and I became very discouraged. LADIES, it is SO important to recognize those fears and REPLACE them with truth from God’s Word. Fear is a spirit, and it is NOT from God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

I learned that the dark places of our lives is where Christ transforms us to be more like Him. It is so easy to think that these hard times in our lives don’t serve a purpose and that we would be better off without them. But, it is in these dark moments, these moments unseen by the rest of the world, that our hope is renewed through our walk with Christ. As we draw near to Him during these times, He gives peace. He gives strength. And He gives grace that is sufficient.

What is going on in your life today that is causing discouragement or defeat? Do you find yourself in a season of waiting? Is your life made up of dark and unseen moments right now? Hold on, dear friends and draw near to Him! Just as winter has turned to spring, so can our darkest moments become our greatest victories through Christ!
