Burnt Bacon & Other Life Lessons

Last night as I was cooking dinner, I made the smoke alarm go off twice. Poor little Capp was shaking in his fur! It’s not even like I was making something difficult. It was bacon, y’all. Good thing we like it burnt! 😂 I found myself doing laundry & mopping well after 9 just so I wouldn’t have to do it on my birthday. And I thought, “so this is 32.”

Today, I almost ran out of gas on my way to the base. I would have had plenty but chose to risk it for Chickfila! No regrets here! I wouldn’t be surprised if I was less than a mile away from being stuck on the side of the road. Thankfully, I passed a gas station and pulled over immediately. As I did, Colten’s boss called and informed me that my husband ranked up to Tech Sergeant!! I cried. For those that don’t know, this is a big deal!! He’s a 7 year Tech. He has always passed his rank tests on the first try and needless to say, I am one proud wife! And to get the news on my birthday? Win, win!

I’ve learned that I can’t please everybody, but I’m sure going to try! I’ve also learned that it isn’t about people-pleasing at all, but more about God-pleasing. If He is honored with my life then I can’t worry about the rest.

I’ve accepted the fact that I will probably never like tomatoes. It makes me a little sad, especially on taco night, but that’s just the reality.

I’ve learned that good & true friends will forgive, love, encourage, and point to Jesus. Distance doesn’t matter. I’ve also learned that’s the kind of friend I want to be!

I’ve learned that I hate looking at the inside of a bell pepper, I can’t stand the word chunky, and yellow just isn’t my color!

I’ve learned that marriage takes hard work but it’s also one of life’s greatest gifts.

I’ve learned that faithfulness in the small things is just as important as faithfulness in the big things.

I’ve learned that life is uncertain & crazy. The only One we can fully rely on is Jesus. And when we seek Him with all of our hearts we will find Him.

I’ve learned that I love having less things but I also really love shopping.

I’ve learned that buffalo wings are my favorite food. I am spoiled by (almost always) clear, blue skies and some of the most beautiful sunsets here in Arizona! I’m also fully convinced that you’ll never see the stars better than when you are under the Texas sky.

I’ve learned lots of things. But at the same time I still have so much to learn. Out of it all, I’ve learned the importance of closeness to my Savior. It’s a day by day, hour by hour choice. He promises to draw near to those who draw near to Him. He truly satisfies like nothing else can. And in His presence is fullness of joy.

So here’s to 32 (and many more!), and maybe finally learning to cook without burning the bacon!

Love you, friends! 💗
