A Thrill of Hope

Last year, my husband and I weren’t able to go home for Christmas. We usually take two weeks and soak up lots of family time and holiday traditions. But last year, there was a conflict with his work schedule, and it just wasn’t possible. We enjoyed a sweet Christmas together, starting a few new traditions and making it our own. While we missed being with family, I knew my parents and youngest brother Alex were headed to Arizona to spend a few days with us and welcome in the New Year. I remember cleaning the house, getting things in order, wrapping their gifts, and buying some of their favorite food. I was so excited. I could hardly stand it that last couple of hours before they arrived. The anticipation alone was through the roof. My family, coming to our home, visiting us, was a gift in itself last holiday season.

Can you remember a time when a family member or friend was coming to visit and the anticipation that came along with that? It’s such a fun time, waiting for the arrival of someone dear to us.

As Christmas draws near, I can’t help but think of that first and most special Christmas and the weeks leading up to it. The years leading up to it! All throughout the Old Testament, we see people anticipating the arrival of someone… the Messiah, the Savior.

At the very beginning of Genesis (after the fall), we see a promise of what is to come, Who is to come. Offering that thrill of hope to Adam & Eve… who no doubt desperately needed it. (Genesis 3:15)

Fast forward to the New Testament. Can you imagine Mary, as she anxiously awaits the birth of her Son, the Son of God.

And even now, on this side of the cross, we eagerly await His return. Romans 8:25 says, “But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with patience.”

From the beginning of time until now, our hearts have longed for Him. In this weary, tiresome, fallen world, there is a thrill of hope, and that hope is Jesus.

From the beginning of time until now, our hearts have longed for Him. In this weary world, there is a thrill of hope, and that hope is Jesus.

We would be completely amiss to get lost in the season without celebrating Him. Don’t let December pass you by, tired and weary from all this season requires, without drawing near to Him.

As we look forward to Christmas Day and time with friends & family, lets also celebrate His birth, remember His sacrifice, and anticipate His return.

I hope you have a very merry Christmas filled with wonder and joy. May your days be merry & bright. And may you stay close to Him at Christmas and always. ❤️
